PostSubject: Match 3 (Pete/Adam/Tom)   Sun Nov 29, 2015 9:25 pm

There's a really easy way to win this *if*1 of us are willing to collect absolutely no garnets (I'm fine with that).  And, conversely, if one of us is willing to collect a lot of garnets.

As an example, let's say we make Pete the winner.  Pete swaps all of his 1 and 2 cards for Tom and Adam's 3 cards.  Pete has all 3 cards.

Pete plays 2 sets of 3 cards against Adam, while Adam plays 2s and 1s.  Both have 3 cards remaining, Pete has 6 wins.  Pete: 3 3s; Adam: 3 2s.

Pete plays his 3 cards against Tom's 2s.  Pete has no more cards and 9 wins.

Adam plays his 2s against Tom's 1s.  Adam has 3 wins and no more cards.  Tom needs to take his extra 3 1s and offer up 3 wins to someone else (shouldn't be hard) - OR, ideally, Pete finds someone else who's willing to give him three cards (2s, perhaps) - giving them less risk of being the person with cards remaining, and getting 3 more wins by beating Tom's 1s.  All 3 of us would have our cards gone, and Pete would have 12 wins.

OK, rereading the rules, we'd need to alternate numbers (Adam plays four 2s and two 1st against Pete, Tom plays two 2s and one 1 against Pete, Adam plays two 2s and one 1 and Tom plays two 1s and one 2 against each other) for the two who don't win, so each gets at least 1 win (so none of us have 0 wins). Still, same idea should work.

Sorry was driving all day yesterday and just caught up. Should we involve other people so it is not obvious it is just us working together?

Say Pete alternates with Than. Pete plays 3 2s vs Than's 3 1s and then Than plays 3 2s vs Pete's 3 1s. They each have 3 points and are left with only 3s. Tom could do the same with maybe Nat or Duck. And I do the same with mets or Sam.

So we all have 3 points and only 3s left. We could then give away our 3s to the other to get them a guaranteed win or just challenge whoever and know we can't lose.

To keep a running tally. Columns equal name, 1s in hand, 2s in hand, 3s in hand, points.

Pete 3 3 3 0
Tom 3 3 3 0
Adam 3 3 3 0
Mets 3 3 3 0
Sam 3 3 3 0
Duck 3 3 3 0
Than 3 3 3 0
Nat 3 3 3 0
Blake 3 3 3 0
Jess 3 3 3 0
Kathy 3 3 3 0

If I get this straight, all we're looking to do is avoid being the worst player ( or lowest points tally at the end ) , it's not about winning, cause even if you do , the loser can still pick you in the death match.
So this is what I propose...
I convince Than that we let each other win 4 games each, keeping one "3" to play against another player (not in our group , and with the "3", you can only win or draw, you can't lose. )

You two do the same...so we all have at least 4 wins each, perhaps 5. This way, none of us will be the worst player, and thats the best outcome.

I've just messaged Than asking him if he's interested , will let you know.... I've decided to 'edit' posts rather than put up new ones,as my total number is running far too high...

edited again
just got a reply from Than and he's definitely up for that !! One slight alteration to the plan is this :
Mas has said that all matches will be posted by him with specific details. So it will no longer be a secret that I am working with Than ( which might work to our advantage later) , also , if we play our 8 matches against each other , then everyone will know that we are left with a "3" , and less likely to play us. So I have suggested to him that we play that "3" first , get it out of the way, then go on to our 8 matches where we win 4 each

Based on the cards, someone will automatically end the game with 0 points. So just having 1 point means we won't be eligible for Death Match.

Involving other people is fine. The good thing about winning is that everyone (except one of us) is eligible for Death Match, leaving options open. That said, this game really is just more about getting up of your cards/not losing. So I'm cool with asking Nat if he wants to do the 2s/1s thing. It's up to you two.

High scorer gets token of life, ie immunity.

Technically, if each of us could find someone to play with, each pair can also play 3s against each other and just tie/no points.

I've PM'd Nat, though I'm a little wary of relying on someone who hasn't signed on (and what other offers they may have when they finally do). I can try PMing Sam, I guess - but I'm not sure what to trust there.

I asked Mas, just to make sure, if he was actually revealing the names of who challenged who, rather than just the results/scores (how specific he meant with "specific").

And yes, high score means immunity. Scoring just 1 point means you're not automatically in the Death Match (provided you get rid of all of your cards). So winning isn't crucial.

I'm thinking the key might be giving away cards. Say I give Pete my 3 1s. And then we play 6 times. I win with my 6 and he loses with the 6 1s.

He still has his 6 best cards.

Not sure where to go from there though.

That then gets into the issue of making it apparent we're working together on this (as it stands, we could outright win - or one of us - if we wanted to do that), and then whether he can find someone willing to lose to him 6 times, which is dangerous. In some ways, unless you have a plan to win, having low/losing cards is better.

If we get rid of everything we're guaranteed not to lose. That is key 1.

Working out deals with others might be better so it isn't obvious we're together.

Realistically, if Than and Pete can just play all of their cards against each other, Nat has agreed to play 1s and 3s (so we're both left with 2s - I mentioned we could tie to use the rest, and he brushed over that, so I'm guessing he has another plan)... If you can get someone to play 6 cards against, then we can play our last 3 against each other to get rid of them.

Mets wants to lose. So I can play 6 vs him.

I'm almost at the point of just play everything while someone else is on so you're not stuck with cards at the end.

I'll play all of my 2s against either of you.  Already posted for 6 rounds (1s and 3s) against Nat, and I gather he's done the same.

Also, Adam - clever with the title of the larger alliance thread - "... to avoid..." Laughing

My guess is Sam will get on, have no clue what to do and end up with most of her cards in her hand.

I have my 3 3s remaining. Do either of you want them to get more points?

I'm fine without them, provided Nat did what he said (I'm comfortable assuming he did).

But if you want to trade a 3 for one of my 2s to be safe, I'm fine with that.

I'll trade you 1 for 1 and then we can give each other another point?

1 for 1? This number thing gets confusing, sorry. To clarify: I've used all my 1s and 3s against Nat, and we both posted 6 rounds in our confessionals - so only have 2s left.

I'll trade 1 of my 3s for 1 of your 2s. Then we play each other twice: my 3 vs your 2 and then your 3 vs my 2. It gives us each 1 more point.

OK, sounds good. Which round should I play the 3/you play the 2?
