Can we get the PAT board back? You can keep the "A" in it, in remembrance. Sad

I'm confused... So is the goal to get the lowest score, or the highest score? It's a little confusing when talking about negative numbers, but...

Example:
Player A gets a score of -30
Player B gets a score of -3

Which one would win?

Another question... is the bidding order set each round, or does it change depending on previous bids? Like, if Pete bids on a number, does it start with Pete the following round? Or does it start with the next person on the list, or does it go back and start with Nat again?

Pete will start the next round since he bids on the previous number.

Mets passed. Before I potentially do the strategy Pete and I discussed, I want to make sure it's OK with you. I don't know your feelings on it, or if it doesn't matter either way to you. So here's my thought process:

I figure there are 2 ways to look at this...

1.) The challenge was established and set-up to be played a certain way
2.) Regardless of that, the goal is to do whatever is most advantageous for one's own position, and think of the challenges holistically and try to find ways to win them, that follow the rules but may be "outside the box".

The method I have isn't foolproof - a lot may depend on the last number and the withheld number. So it's not a sure bet (someone else may win)... it's an uncertain strategy, like anything else. 3 people have had to opportunity to think of the same strategy, or play it, and they haven't - it's a strategy that works with the rules. I could play the way everyone else is playing, burn through most of my garnets while struggling to find a way to win (this way, even if I lose, I keep my garnets), try to beat everyone else at their own game (and rely heavily on luck - what people bid on and what they pass - and I already have to some degree... it's luck that 3 people passed) and make this a lot more complicated than it needs to be (Blake didn't, and he won).

Ultimately, I'd be playing this challenge to win the challenge, not sitting back to send myself to the Death Match - my goal is the goal of the challenge (to win it), I just found a more convenient way of doing that, per the rules. Clearly it's not like I haven't weighed the possibilities here, thought through different scenarios and strategies... But any strategy relies on luck - this strategy relies on one moment of luck, and preserves garnets (another consideration in the game) in the process, regardless of that.

However, if you're absolutely opposed to it, I won't. But I do think it's my best chance of winning (and that's why I'm doing it). It would also speed up the challenge a lot. All of that considered, would you be upset if I played it that way?

I'll take the silence as a reluctant "suuuuure". Very Happy Pete and I are suddenly not in the best position, and this could help (and definitely can't hurt). It does feel cheap... I keep having to remind myself that the rules of the challenge are pretty much begging for this. Sad

i was trying for someone not to adopt this which is why i thought about accepting a positive number. i have really looked through the real challenge and there wasn't anything that was said about it. i can't prevent you from using your strategy but if it results in everybody having a positive number in the end, this will get very messy.

What happens if everyone has a positive number?  Would it just be the sole winner picking the Death Match candidate, or is there something else?

I saw. Thank you! Again, that's the risk... it comes down to the last numbers (easy for me to keep a negative number, but by luck of the draw, might not be easy to keep the *best* negative number.

I was kidding about it being your fault. If I really wanted to change the strategy, I would've nagged you about changing that bid to a pass.

Winning would've been ideal. But going to the Death Match works. I haven't been yet... may as well see what it's like. If I can't win a Death Match, I'm definitely not going to win in the final 2 and all of those competitions - so may as well go for it and prove my worth, or let someone who's better at challenges and would have better odds in the finals make it further.

lolz.  It's the same challenge that Mets beat Blake in... which I gave my strategy to help him.  So not only do I have to beat Mets, but I have to beat my own strategy, because he'll be able to counter it.  I'll basically have to beat 2 people - one of them being myself, the other one being Mets knowing my strategy and how to counter it, and conversely could do extremes in case I go the opposite of the strategy I told him - at once.

Ugh.

I sort of regret helping Mets beat Blake in this challenge now. My one advantage is that he might be uncertain whether I'm gonna play the same strategy I/we suggested to him, or if I'm purposely going to invert it. Or maybe he'll assume I'll go with the strategy I dismissed after saying pretty much everyone would use that strategy (would never be expected, right?).

I could win Quattro by potentially blocking his trades/forcing him to take a certain card (why did no one do that?). I could win Indian Poker because I'm awesome at bluffing (Adam went too big too fast - would've been better to fold that early, and wait for Nat to get a sense of security). I would've been confident winning this if not for the above mentioned dilemma. I'm almost considering randomizing the numbers and playing them in random order - at the very least, he'd have no way of figuring out what I'm doing.

We'll see. If I'm eliminated - this game has been great, and thank you for hosting it.
